Animals have always brought me a sense of relief…

Since 1997, I have been dealing with a debilitating disease. Intense cramping, bloating, fatigue, irritability, and nausea are just a few of the symptoms. Only, no one knew what was wrong with me. I was in and out of countless doctors offices and hospitals for multiple tests; xrays, mri, cat scans, etc. I’ve even had many cameras throughout my digestive tract to try and decipher what was causing all my pain and discomfort. Back in the 90’s and early 2000’s there wasn’t a lot of information on my disease. However, throughout all my testing there was one thing that always brought me comfort and a welcome distraction; my pets.

For as long as I can remember, I have always had some kind of pet. Whether it was a snake or toad I found in the yard, or a cat, dog, or even mouse, I have always been surrounded by animals. There are photos of me when I was less than 1 years old in my pack and play, holding our family cat, Mittens. When I was young, I did a science project on how a mouse could remember the maze when you introduce high-value treats. My mouse, Pepper, was also trained to sit on my shoulder. In my 20’s and early 30’s, I also rescued quite a few dogs and cats with many of them finding permanent places in my home.

While I am learning how to remove stress and negativity from my life, I am focused on also adding more healthy routines and positivity. Photographing animals helps me accomplish that!
